A home for a family of four.
The site contained an existing Indo-Portuguese house. Retained the original portion of the house for its character and relationship to the site. The design challenge was to balance privacy with connection within a compact site and create an architectural language that referenced the existing portion playfully.
- mezzanines extending from the bedrooms,
- an external staircase that functions as a communal spine,
- verandas and balconies at multiple levels
- brick fins moderate sunlight and reduce heat gain
- original Indo-Portuguese structure retained,
- restored and connected to a light-weight, sleek steel frame for the extension
